We found out we were pregnant on September 26, 2000, at the hospital because I was having severe abdominal cramps that I couldn't explain. It was wonderful to find out that we were going to have a baby. We drove all over the place letting all of our family and friends know. It was so wonderful to know how very special and blessed we were to be having a baby. I was 20 and my fiancee (at the time which is now my husband) was 27. I was in and out of the doctors and the hospital because I was still having really bad cramps and thought something bad was going to happen. Come to find out everything was okay. I found out later that it was my body adjusting to the fact that I had a baby growing inside me and I had to make room.
Since I was having so many pains and cramps my doctor decided to have me go for an ultrasound on October 30, 2000. Our baby was only 8 weeks and 6 days old. It was so cute. I called him/her (since I didn't know what I was having yet) "my little teddy bear". It was so cute seeing him floating away.
On December 25, 2000 while visiting John's grandparents, John got a phone call and it turned out to be my sister. She called to tell us that my grandpa had had a stroke. I screamed, that's all I could do. I was so upset. I was so close to my grandpa and I loved him very much. It was a very stressful time for all of us, especially me since I was 4 months pregnant. He was paralyzed on his right side and needed therapy on his speech and motor skills. It was a long process but he was able to come home in February 2001. He continued therapy at home and we also took him to a therapist to help him with most things. He had a feeding tube because he couldn't digest his food properly, so we all learned how to take care of him with things he couldn't do.
On Friday, January 19, 2001 we had our first ultrasound we found out we were having a BOY!!! It was wonderful to see him on the screen for the fist time. It was a very emotional time for us. Finally being able to see our son for the first time even thou it was by ultrasound it was still wonderful. That night at about 5pm we got a call from my doctor telling us that they spotted something on our son's heart, and they were referring up to a specialist doctor at Akron City Hospital. We were so scared that something was gravely wrong with our son. The thought was how dare she call us on a Friday night and tell us this. There was nothing we could do except wait until Monday and call Akron City Hospital. They called us on Monday and made our appointment for Wednesday January 31, 2001. When the day finally arrived we paced the floor for an hour and a half. They were running behind so we had to wait. When we finally got back there, the nurse was there first she done the ultrasound first. It was hard and scary but we got to see our son on the screen moving and wiggling around. The nurse was taking pictures for us of him and taking measurements of him. She started taking the pictures of his heart. When she was done, she went out with the pictures of his heart to show the doctor. The doctor came in to take a look. He told us that all it was, was a calcium deposit and it was nothing to worry about. We asked if it would bother him later on in life or if he would have no complications? He told us that it wouldn't give him any problems. We were so relieved that he would be okay.
On March 18, 2001 we had our baby shower. It was so wonderful, everyone pitched in and helped us. We got so many thing that we needed and wanted for our up coming bundle of joy. I got to meet alot of John's side of the family that I hadn't had a chance to meet.
On March 24, 2001 John and I got married in a small ceremony with just our family and a few close friends. It was a beautiful day. It wasn't cold and it didn't snow. Which was a blessing. We didn't get a chance to go where we wanted on our honeymoon, for the fact that I was pregnant. So we decided when we renew our vows for our 10 year anniversary, we will get to have our honeymoon then.
On March 31, 2001 I started having contractions (or I thought). We raced to Akron City Hospital. I thought I was going into labor 3 months early. But lucky it wasn't. This happened on and off until May 28Th. When I started dilating. I was only about a finger tip dilated but I was on my way. Nothing else happened until June 3rd. I started having contractions again. I went to lunch and went shopping with my husband. We were then going to my parents house for Sunday dinner with them and by that time the contractions were coming on stronger and stronger. I called the doctor and they told me not to come in until the contractions were 5 minutes apart or less, and/or my water was to break.
Finally, later that night we left my parents house. On our way home we saw a fire truck from another city's department and decided to follow it. Well we ended up by the hospital and since I was having the contractions more often and stronger we decided to go in and get checked.
We got upstairs and they told us I was 4 centimeters dilated and they were going to keep me because I was going into active labor. That was about 9 pm or so. We called our families and let them know. John, my mom and my sister stayed the whole night with me. My mother and father-in-law, sister-in-law, my brother, his girlfriend and our nephew all showed up. My dad came after he got out of work around 3 am. He stayed the night with us.
The nurse I had was so amazing. She only left my side twice. Both times to call the doctor. Around 10 pm or so I wanted my epidural. They called and he came up to do it. They asked everyone to leave the room, and John refused to leave my side, so they asked him to stand on the only side of the room, and he did. I felt pretty good after that. I was having muscle spasms in my legs so my mom held one leg and my sister held the other. Finally about 545 am or so I wanted a little more pain medication so they gave me New bane. OMG was it wonderful. I was feeling so good. At 550 am the nurse called my doctor and said it was time. But my water hadn't broke yet. She got there at about 600 am or so and once again everyone was asked to leave the room, and of course John stayed and waited at my side. She broke my water and at my next contraction told me to push. Oh I pushed and screamed at the same time I didn't know what to expect. When I screamed my mom and sister came rushing in to see what was going on. I only pushed a few times and next thing I knew I was told to stop because his head was out. It was so amazing.
I had Joshua Edward Zachary Bungo at 6:29am on June 4, 2001. He weighed 7 lbs 2 oz and was 19 inches long. It was wonderful. John, my mom and sister where there with me when I had Joshua. My dad and mother-in-law came in after I had him. It was a beautiful moment. Finally getting to see who he looked like and get to hold him in our arms. He looked so much like his Daddy, It was amazing finally being able to see him and hold him. I could never-ever explain the feelings I was having at that moment.
